On 15th January 2011 the JV Saipem-Rizzani de Eccher-Tecnimont-Maltauro, with a €835 million bid, was awarded the first 400km lot of the Al Marj – Emssad coastal highway, which is financed by the Italian government.
The coastal highway, consisting of 4 lots, will stretch along the contour of the Libyan coast from the Egyptian border to Tunisia, for a total length of 1800km. The road will feature two lanes and one hard shoulder in each direction. Within the joint venture, Rizzani de Eccher will execute 24.5% of the works, including all superstructures (approximately 70,000sqm of bridges and overpasses). The execution of the construction contract is to take place in January 2011 and works are set to commence within two months thereof.
